What Are the Differences Between a Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid?
Both hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles use electricity to cut down your trips to the gas pump, making them exceptional choices for modern drivers. The core difference comes down to how the battery is replenished and how much time you can spend driving gas-free.
Hybrids
These vehicles rely on a self-charging system. As you brake or coast, the vehicle's regenerative braking captures lost kinetic energy and stores it in the battery. The electric motor then assists the gas engine to maximize your fuel economy automatically, requiring absolutely no change to your normal driving habits.
Plug-In Hybrids
These models offer a "best of both worlds" approach. Like a standard hybrid, they use regenerative braking to capture energy on the go. However, because they feature a larger battery that can be plugged into an outlet at home, they allow you to complete your daily errands or short commutes entirely on electric power. This delivers even greater long-term fuel savings and qualifies the vehicle for various government purchase incentives.

SANTA FE Hybrid

TUCSON Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid
The TUCSON Hybrid combines a Smartstream 1.6L turbocharged GDI engine with a 47.7 kW electric motor, providing an exceptional driving experience and up to 231 horsepower. Meanwhile, the TUCSON Plug-in Hybrid pairs that same turbocharged engine with a 72 kW motor and a rechargeable battery.
