One of the most real frictions of life with an electric vehicle isn't range — it's public charging itself. Juggling multiple apps, creating an account on every network, entering your payment information over and over, never knowing whether the station in front of you is compatible or functional. For many drivers, this complexity is more discouraging than the question of range.
Hyundai Auto Canada has just tackled this problem head-on with two announcements that concretely simplify life for electric vehicle owners. Here's what it changes for you.
The Real Irritant: Too Many Platforms, Too Many Steps
Until recently, charging on the public network often meant managing several separate platforms. One app to locate a station, a separate account for each charging network, a payment method to configure each time. For a driver in a hurry — or simply for someone who wants it to work effortlessly — this fragmentation turns an operation that should take a few seconds into a recurring source of frustration.
It's exactly the kind of friction that makes some buyers hesitate before going electric, and that can dampen the experience for new owners in their first months.
The Solution: Manage Everything From a Single App
Hyundai Auto Canada has integrated a new charging feature directly into the MyHyundai with Bluelink app. Owners can now locate a station, start a charging session, and complete their payment — all from a single app, without switching between platforms.
This integration is made possible through a partnership with ChargePoint, giving access to a vast North American charging network. This network brings together several of the main charging providers in Quebec and Canada — including FLO, the Circuit électrique, and ChargePoint itself — representing considerable coverage for a South Shore driver, whether for daily commutes or a long trip. Payments and charging sessions are securely managed by ChargePoint.
"At Hyundai, we aim to make the electric vehicle ownership experience as simple and intuitive as possible."

A Second Piece of Good News: A Free NACS Adapter Program
Hyundai has also announced a free NACS adapter program for certain models equipped with a CCS port. This adapter considerably expands the number of fast-charging stations your vehicle can connect to — a real practical advantage for long trips.
Eligible owners can obtain their adapter from their dealer through the EV Special Care program, subject to available stock and after registering with the MyHyundai app.
Eligible models, delivered before December 31, 2025, are:
- IONIQ EV (2019 to 2021)
- Kona Electric (2019 to 2026)
- IONIQ 5 (2022 to 2025)
- IONIQ 6 (2023 to 2025)
If you own one of these vehicles, I encourage you to check your eligibility — it's a free addition that concretely improves your access to fast charging.
What This Means Concretely for You
These two initiatives address the two biggest frictions of public charging: software complexity and station compatibility. By combining location, session start, and payment into a single app, and by expanding access to fast-charging stations through the NACS adapter, Hyundai concretely strengthens its electric mobility ecosystem.
For a current owner, this means a significantly smoother charging experience starting today. For a buyer still hesitating to go electric, it means one of the most common objections — "charging is too complicated" — is being tangibly resolved.
